In Nablus, the tradition of olive oil soap-making evolved into a major industry and an art. As early as the 10th century, the traditional olive oil soap from the city’s factories was exported across the Arab world, and as far as Europe, where it is said that “Sabon Nabulsi” (Nablus Soap) was the soap of choice for Queen Elizabeth of England. Combined with its clean ingredients straight from the West Bank, it makes this soap truly unique.

Established since 1880 in Nablus Palestine

Our factory, Al-Shakaa, has been making the Al-Jamal Soap for more than 140 years. Al-Jamal Soap is a Nabulsi soap produced only in our factory in Nablus in West Bank, Palestine. Palestine is said to be the birthplace of olive oil and is home to some of the world’s oldest olive trees – some as old as 5,000 years. Using this virgin olive oil, which is sourced locally from Palestine, we hand make our soap. It’s completely plant-based and there is no scent, or perfume added.

Behind the Scenes of our factory

Pouring the soap

Virgin Olive Oil is collected locally from Palestine and then is cooked and then poured onto the floor so it can harden.

Cutting the soap

Once soap hardens, it is stamped, then cut into its unique square shape and then stacked to start drying.

Letting it dry

Soap is stacked into piles to allow air to flow through and dry it. Drying process takes from 2-3 weeks.

Packaging

Once the soap is fully dry, it is then hand packaged.
